Connecticut Trip

Having just recovered from a long two weeks of sick children, sick infant, and even sick mom and dad in our home… we needed a vacation! So we headed out to visit the Remingtons in Connecticut.  It is always a vacation when we are with these guys as they are so good to us.  Right from the minute I arrived, Michelle convinced me to sleep train Grant, with her help (I think she could tell from the bags under my eyes that I was really losing it!)

Although Grant responded well to my initial sleep training intervention--he became sick shortly after and so I essentially needed to start the process all over.  Really, really not easy to do in a small apartment.  You truly feel like you are right in the same room with your desperate little crying infant. And not only that, your other children are bound to be awakened as well!  So, Michelle set up a perfect and safe little place for Grant… far, far away from me and the kids.  She allowed me to sleep in and recover from the long nights and to go to bed early while she cleaned up the messes we’d made all day.  It was one of the best gifts anyone could give—because now Grant sleeps through the night—for five days and counting!!  Believe me,  I know he’ll get sick again, or start teething, or  have a growth spurt and the nightly wakings will rear their ugly head once again… but for now, it is just so nice to have a few nights of solid sleep under my belt.

As for my other darling children….Dane remembered the red car from our last visit out and he spent most every day, all day riding around the house, the yard and the tennis court.  Evelyn spent most of her days laughing and getting into mischief with Michael.  I won’t go into details here, but let’s just say, they were partners in crime.

Brittany came up with us and was such an angel to play with the kids and babysit here and there so Michelle and I could go out.  The kids enjoyed the parks, the nature center, the big backyard. In fact, for most of the week—I only saw my kids from afar off!  The big back yard separated the kids and I—and I think they were kind of happy about that—after the long winter and the tight quarters, it felt good to have some space to roam.

Michelle is an awesome cook and helped the kids make their own pizza dough and mini pizzas.  They made cookies, pancakes, jello jigglers… you name it!

It was a wonderful vacation and we don’t even want to think about the fact that after July, we won’t be just an hour away, but rather- all the way across the country!  We are so grateful for all the wonderful friends we’ve made out here and it is definitely going to be hard to say goodbye in a few short months.
Bees at the nature center-- evelyn and dane were extremely fascinated!
