a funny dilemma

Dane has a nasty habit of biting his loved ones.  It's not a malicious attack, and he doesn't bite very hard when he does it.  More of an affectionate thing- as weird as that sounds.

When we were in Seattle, he often demonstrated his "love"  by running up to my Dad and biting his toe while he was reading the newspaper.  Or biting my mom unexpectedly while they cuddled on the couch.  Oftimes while I'm cooking or doing dishes, he'll run up behind me and bite the back of my thigh- ouch!

The dilemma is that the bite catches you so off guard, it doesn't really hurt, it's just very shocking.  You can't help but act a little crazy;  ie...yelp, jump,  (big reinforcement for a toddler!)   You then look down at him and he gives you the cutest smile in the world and you can't help but laugh a little. Anyway, I think we've sent mixed messages to the child- with our reactions.  But I know that I must stop him before he starts biting people/kids outside the family!

While we were home, Mike kept pointing out his "vampire" teeth and associating that with his passion for biting people.  So, here are a few pics of Dane sporting his cute little vampire teeth.
