I wasn’t sure how to celebrate New Year’s Eve, without Blake and with the kids being so young. But, Evelyn gets so excited about everything, and of course, I love parties and holidays, so I decided we definitely needed to celebrate.
I explained to her all about the New Year and what that meant. We went out to dinner ( a treat for the kids- as we rarely go out in New York; usually we order food in.) Then we headed home and put on the party hats that Evy and I had made earlier in the week. We turned out all of the lights, lit the candles, set an alarm clock for a countdown, and talked all about the best events of 2008. We then turned our focus to hopes and dreams for 2009.
Funny, Evelyn’s greatest hope for 2009 was that the Easter bunny would remember to come on Easter. Of course we had no intention of staying up until midnight with the kids- and so the countdown began at 7:15 and ended at 7:30. Earlier in the week, I had taught Evy how to count backwards from 10- so she had that down. We made lots of noise- with our home-made noise-makers and played a little rock-band before heading to bed. It was a fun celebration…although we missed Blake very much. Happy New Years everyone!
