There are three rules you must follow when riding the train with Dane.
- Never put your foot anywhere NEAR the yellow safety line.
- Always allow Dane to walk by himself up and down the subway stairs. Do not try to rush him or hold his hand—he is perfectly capable and insistent on going it alone.
- Never, and I mean NEVER start to head up the stairs after exiting the train until after the train has departed in full. A sentimental and very ritualistic wave goodbye from both mother and child must occur before final ascent up the stairs.
He’s been known to actually pull random strangers away from the yellow line if he feels they are too close.
