Family Theme and Scripture

Last month I decided it was time for our family to decide upon a family theme or motto.  I'd always wanted to do this with the kids and Blake, but also wanted to make sure they were old enough to weigh in and contribute, as this would be our family concept!  One that would last throughout their growing up years.  I prayerfully considered different ideas throughout the week leading up to our family night,  and gathered up a list of suggestions.  It was so fun to sit down together and listen to the various ideas and then come up with our own as well.  At first Dane loved "we can do hard things".  Evelyn was hoping for "love is spoken here."  Things got pretty silly after a while when Blake began to list off all sorts of silly motto ideas.  Marston Family: Wish us Luck!  Marston Family: May heaven help us!
Evelyn took notes on my phone as we talked and the list below depicts the funny conversation.
After the silliness had subsided, I began to get a little nervous.  I didn't want to have to choose either Evie or Dane's and leave one broken hearted.  I wanted everyone to decide and agree together!  That's when Dad saved the day!  He announced,  "have I done any good in the world today?"  And immediately all of us loved it and felt it was perfect for our family.  Sounds cheesy, but I actually felt the spirit confirm how perfect it was and I think the kids did too. We all loved it.  I also discussed with the kids that we would have a family scripture that I'd like them to memorize (below).  I framed the motto and scripture and hung everything up right at the top of the staircase so that each time the kids came up the stairs, they'd see and remember our theme and scripture.  I sure do love my family!
