August Happenings

A few highlights from our wonderful month of August!

We wrapped up the summer basketball season with an undefeated record!  Such a cute little team-- and darling to watch both Dane and Grant together, with Daddy coaching.  LOVED this.  We celebrated at Jen's house where the boys swam all evening, and could hardly wait to receive their trophy (favorite part of the season).  Besides basketball, it was also so much fun to attend quite a few soccer tournaments for the boys.  Mostly in town-- from La Jolla to Oceanside, our weekends were very busy!  Dane's team is pretty amazing and he's found some great little friends- and we are really liking his coach.  Grant's team also has some awesome families that we've become close with this summer.  We are feeling good about the switch to Arsenal-- as hard as it was to leave SDFA.  It's been fun to meet new families and also convenient as it is closer to our home.

One last day at Legoland Water Park.  We loved our season pass-- we will still be able to visit Legoland all fall/winter, but the water park is closed now.  Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for the fantastic birthday present!

We've spent a LOT of time in preparation for Anna's eye surgery (more on that to come).  Lots of time down at Radys Children's Hospital to measure her eyes properly before the surgery.  It's been a little stressful for me thinking about it, but, heck... when am I not stressed out about my kids? Plus, she loves visiting "McDonald".

I was not as diligent as I wish I had been this summer in educating my children!  I always have plenty of grand ideas; themes and concepts I want to address-- but when push comes to shove-- we are usually at the beach, the pool or park with friends . And I guess that's ok.  That's what summer is for!  One thing we did cover this summer was President Hinckley's 9 B's.  I addressed one each week and LOVED this teaching idea!  The kids loved it too!

We didn't have our traditional Back to School dinner party. So hard for me not to do this!  But it just wasn't going to happen with our move happening 2 days after the first day of school.  Thankfully, my friends picked up the slack.  Maren hosted a darling breakfast back to school party at her home where the kids met up with all of their old friends.  And then some of my best girlfriends and I did a fun FHE at the park the Monday before school started.  We played games, ate dinner and dessert and then I gave a little lesson on bringing your standards to school with you-- we played a school version of "Would you Rather".  Really fun!

Also left a little thought with the young women before I left (talk about a hard day for me!)  I showed them this picture and then we discussed the fact that we all take various paths and that life leads us in all sorts of directions.  If we have the right attitude and embrace all that life throws our way-- each change, each path can be AWESOME.  I told them our time together had certainly been such.  But also their new leaders would lead them down a similarly awesome path.  I will miss these girls more than I can say! Should've gotten one last picture all together-- but I forgot!

Back to school for the kids was amazing this year.  Each of the kids had the teacher they had hoped for.  And no one was too overly nervous.  So fun to watch the big kids watch out for Anna (starting preschool) and Grant (starting kindergarten). They were so protective and loving.  I am constantly amazed at my kids-- love them so much.  I miss them while they are at school, but am so happy that they have wonderful teachers and a great school to attend. Evelyn is all about her own style this year.  She changes outfits 2-3 times a day.  Love her!  Anna has been a little nervous, but also very brave and excited to attend school with her best buddy Nora Doud.  She is just as cute as a button!  Dane has the same teacher and classmates he's had the previous two years-  it's been a joy for him to have his teacher move up with him 3 years in a row!  So comfortable and easy.  Grant hasn't thrown a single fit yet about school.  He's happy as can be and I'm so grateful.

Last but not least, we enjoyed our awesome ward campout the weekend after we moved into our home.  And yeah.... I was in charge.  It was hard!  But it happened.  And I think I did a good job when all was said and done.  Of course I didn't do it alone.  I had so much help from my co-chair and a member of the Bishopric who pitched in with all the various camp phone calls to hire life-guards and set up sound systems!  We put on a darling variety show on Friday night-- it turned out SO cute!  Funny skits, songs, jokes.  Too cute.  We had a delicious spread of Woofems and Smores that the young women helped me out with.  Breakfast in the morning was a success with a yogurt parfait bar, muffins, cinnamon rolls, fruit and juices.  I was exhausted afterwards, but so grateful to be part of such a fun event.

And that's a wrap!
