Brooklyn Halloween

Halloween is so much fun in our little neighborhood.  I didn’t write about this last year, so I’ll take the opportunity to explain a typical Brooklyn Halloween night.

Before I begin, I must mention that my dear friend, Christy, is in town.  We were college roommates at BYU and she has visited me in every state I’ve lived in since that time- quite a feat! She is so much fun and always talks me into crazy types of adventures. (more on this later.)

But back to Halloween....with Evelyn dressed as a princess, Christy as a flapper, I as a vampire, and Dane the cookie monster, we  headed out the door for some trick-or-treating along 7th Avenue.  It is so much fun as all of the shops and markets open their doors for kids to collect candy.  The ENTIRE neighborhood is out and, let me tell you…. this makes for many cute little people all in one place. It’s quite chaotic!  But, it’s fun because the candy is so accessible to the kids- they don’t have to walk up to any doors- they just walk along the street and shop owners drop candy in their bags.  The avenue is quite long… but my kids only lasted about 10 city blocks.

After trick or treating, we headed to our shared backyard and had a wonderful Halloween party with all of our neighbors. Dane’s little friend dressed as Elmo- so he was excited; Our neighbor across the hall dressed as the Bounty Hunter- very cute. Kailer’s grandma dressed as Mary Poppins- she was quite a hit with all of the kids!  Parents tried to get their kids to eat some healthy dinner before they devoured their candy.  It was a lot of craziness- but so much fun.  After the party, the kids and Blake headed back to 7th Avenue for an amazing Halloween parade.  The street is closed off and all of the neighborhood marches down the road. It’s very fun.  So, you see why I love Halloween around here?  It’s definitely a party.
