Narrative and Twist on traditional subject

Another assignment required that we submit an image using a narrative to tell a story.

In other words, we needed to rely on the environment surrounding our subject to clue the viewer in.

I chose to photograph my lovely dry cleaner- she is wonderful and we are friends- so she didn’t’ mind posing.  I thought the misspelling of the sign by the door helped to tell the story of her recent arrival to America.

Next, we were asked to photograph a common item in a way that was unique or visually interesting.  We could choose either hands or shoes.  Did you know that shoes hanging from a wire like this are a sign of trouble?  It means drugs are sold close by… I didn’t know that at the time I took the shot, but read it on the internet later.
