People Photography

I love my classes this semester.  Especially my people photography course.  It’s a lot of fun; every week we discuss different types of portrait lighting for our subjects.  While Troy was here visiting, I took a few photos of him in direct sunlight- and then in shade.  I always thought that a photographer should avoid direct sunlight at all costs, but learned that at times it can serve a purpose- to convey mood or feeling.  Then of course, open shade is always beautiful for outdoor shooting- so I took a few of Troy in open shade.

Last week we had an assignment to use window lighting- without reflectors or fill flash.  I use window lighting a lot, usually with my diffused flash.  But it’s good to experiment- especially when you have a cute little subject to pose for you.  It only cost me four chocolate hearts as a bribe for her obedience.  I’ll continue posting from time to time regarding this class- it’s really very interesting and I’m learning a lot.
