Evelyn has been cracking us up- as usual with her one-liners. Yesterday she presented her Dad with a design for her very own jack-o-lantern. After watching Blake carefully execute every detail and present her with the finished product, she said, “Dad- is that the best you can do?” I know it sounds rude, but seriously, it was a very honest and concerned question on her part. Poor Blake knows he is no artist-- and I certainly don’t have even the slightest bit of energy to do much of anything now in my last week of pregnancy. So, yes... it was the best we could do!
While wrestling in the bedroom, Dane accidentally smashed Evelyn’s arm. She stood up furiously and exclaimed, “Dane- that is IT!!! I’m not going to marry you anymore!”
I guess she upped the ante. Before, it was always a termination of their ‘best friend’ status.
And then this is too good. When Evelyn makes poor choices, all I have to say is two words: ‘American Doll’. She knows that she has three seconds to change her mind before she loses her American Girl Doll for the day. This is the ultimate punishment and so I can easily threaten her simply by saying, “Evelyn, you are about to lose your American Doll.”
Well, Evelyn surprised me the other day when in a fit of fury-- all directed at my actions- she came up with a suiting punishment. She very loudly and with much emotion exclaimed, “Mom--- you just lost all of your hugs and kisses from me today!” and then she slammed the door. Although I found it completely disrespectful, I was a little impressed by her thinking process.
Fortunately, she’s not as consistent as her parents are in carrying out punishments! She was hugging and kissing me within the hour.
