Evelyn has been very eager to carve a jack-o-lantern. Despite my best efforts to convince her that painting a pumpkin is just as great, she has been determined to do it her way.
Yesterday, she picked out a pumpkin and went to work on a design for his face. Then impressively scooped out the entire contents of the pumpkin insides with little break. Dane was not nearly as excited about the whole project-- preferring to play trains.
When all was said and done, both kids were most enthralled by the candle inside the pumpkin—spending much time and taking numerous turns blowing it out before we dressed up and headed to the annual church chili-cook off. It’s a big event around here with chili and pie contests, trick or treating, a band from our church and so on. I usually enjoy myself very much. This year, not so. I fielded questions all night about why I hadn’t gone into labor yet! All my fault as I’ve been supposing I’d have a baby by now with all the contractions I experience daily! I guess going into labor can be a tricky thing- and not in the least predictable.
Still, the kids had so much fun with their little friends. Dane insisted he wanted to be a train conductor this year—so cute. And Evelyn was excited to be Dorothy.
