Black Friday

In the future, if I ever doubt how much my husband loves me, I’ll think back to this day---Black Friday 2009. Though Blake and I have much in common, we are opposites in many ways. I love broadway shows, Blake loves sports events. I love reading fiction, Blake—not so much. I listen to music on the radio, Blake prefers talk-radio. And I love to be out in the hustle and bustle of things— while Blake prefers non-crowded, low-key types of outings.

So, I had to work on Blake early this year--- to talk him into visiting Macy’s Santa-- the day after Thanksgiving. Exiting the subway on 34th at Herald Square is NOT an easy thing to do during the holiday season—we both know that. But, we had a plan. We decided we wouldn’t bring the stroller into Manhattan--- a new thing for us! And we knew it had potential to backfire; ie., the kids might tire and then we’d have to carry them. But thankfully that didn't happen. The kids were great and the experience was a good one. The line was only about 25 minutes and it was a treat for the kids to talk with Santa.

Dane asked for trains and Evelyn asked for a doll bed. We ate gingerbread men and browsed through all the fabulous toy displays. The elves were very engaging—and Evelyn had fun chatting away. Dane enjoyed the train running through the giant Christmas tree. Blake didn’t complain about the crowds, not even once. And that’s saying a lot—just look at this picture I snapped as we headed up the escalator! People everywhere!! The kids and I had a wonderful day—and I think Blake secretly did as well. And if he didn’t, he sure didn’t show otherwise. Now that’s love.
