New Year's Festivities

It was a pretty quiet week! Many friends were traveling and most of our neighbors were gone. We’ve never stayed in Brooklyn this time of year- so it was a change of pace for sure in comparison to the normal hustle and bustle.

Evelyn loves New Year’s Eve. She remembers every moment of our big night last year with my family. The countdown, the lights going out, the party hats and noise makers, and of course the happy wishes and prayers for the new year. As Blake was working New Year’s Eve day, the kids and I spent time making noisemakers and cookies for our party that night. We talked about goals. The top of my list—patience! The top of Evelyn’s list—obeying mom and dad! And yes, I did steer her ideas in that direction. Then we headed over across our neighborhood to ring in the New Year with friends. Evelyn “rocked out” in a major way. She is a star when it comes to rock band. Dane spent the night snacking away—his own personal nirvana-- as the chocolate chip cookies were left unmonitored and within his little reach.

On New Year’s Day we walked over to Wollman’s Rink and met with friends for ice-skating. Unfortunately, Evelyn did not enjoy the experience as she had hoped she would. Ice skating is HARD! And I felt for her. She did give it her best shot, but spent most the time falling on her bum and hugging my legs so that she wouldn’t fall. Poor thing! I told her we would practice and one day become very good. So, ice skating became another of her 2010 goals. These pictures really capture the whole experience perfectly!
