Happy Birthday to you, sweet boy!
An excerpt from the journal I keep for him:
Dane- you have become such a mature young man this year! Your favorite things to do include: jumping on the trampoline, helping out with chores and especially baking, coloring, art work, playing hotwheels, looking for seashells, soccer and golf with Dad. You also love riding your scooter, reading books about snakes and spiders, looking for spiders, and accompanying me to the store. Your favorite foods are cereal and milk, mac and cheese, pancakes, and breakfast sausage. Favorite TV programs are Spongebob Squarepants and Phineas and Ferb. You love super heros and you love anything at all to do with cars/motorcycles and trucks.
I have enjoyed watching your personality blossom this year as you have made new friends in San Diego and adjusted well to many various social situations; ie: new preschool, primary, soccer team and so forth. Your communication skills have grown in leaps and bounds and you are most often comfortable voicing your opinion with friends… although still remain quiet in large groups.
This Fall, you will begin kindergarten with just a bit of pull-out speech. Your therapists and teachers feel confident that you are ready for a general classroom and we are all so proud of you for the successes you’ve achieved this past year! You are a favorite for all the teachers both at school and church.
You are respectful, and attentive, you are so smart. You truly shock me with your intellect and thinking. You love asking questions, your vocabulary is tremendous and your thought processes are quite unique and always interesting. You have a better sense of direction then even your mother! Often, you will tell me I’ve taken a wrong turn, or you’ll know right where we are even when we are far from home! Your personality is calm and sensitive… but you are a very funny individual. You make everyone laugh and you love to laugh yourself. You always see the bright side of things, and it takes a lot to ruffle your feathers. That being said…you are still a little scared in the evening hours and you love to run into mom and dad’s bed every night to escape the dark. We don’t mind!
Dane, you are an incredibly sensitive and loving person. You care about your siblings and your parents so very much. You are eager to make everyone around you happy and you are a peacemaker through and through. Although at times you will tease Evy and Grant, your typical interaction with each of them is full of love and kindness. And then your desire to help out around the house is beyond amazing! You love to work and will perform any chore with a smile on your face.
Dane, you are a true joy and such a special part of our family. From the moment you were born, you have been an example of a good little person who inspires all of us to do our best. You try to always choose the right and to love those around you and that rubs off on our entire family. We feel so blessed to have you in our lives.
