family life

Classic Evelyn stall tactic:
After several prompts to practice piano, I find Evelyn outside digging in the mud.

“Evelyn, honey….don’t you think you should do the smart thing and go in and practice your piano?”

“Mom….I’m doing the smart thing! I’m helping the earth by building a bird bath!!”

The girl will truly find any excuse to postpone work!

A not so great FHE:

Thought it would be a great way to spend Sunday evening—watching “The Other Side of Heaven” with the kids. A wonderful movie about Elder Groberg and his mission to Tonga. Though adult-like in many ways, the movie is full of adventure, hurricanes, near-death experiences, rats, you know? basic kid stuff.  We discussed missionary work beforehand…let me tell you the kids were RIVITED for the entire duration of this movie.  And I felt pretty satisfied with my choice of Sunday activity as I turned off the TV.

That is until Dane shouted out at the top of his lungs, “I’M NEVER GOING ON A MISSION!”  After which he promptly ran as fast as he could up the stairs to bed.  And that was the end of that.

A dramatic Evelyn moment:
After applying lipstick, powder, and eye shadow and getting a stern reprimand, she retorts:  “MOM, I’m just living my dreams!”

And lastly:
I told Dane I wanted him to try to stay in his bed tonight because my bed was too crowded. Found him in Evelyn’s room the next morning. Cute little pair.

Dane decided to apply his own sunscreen.
