Grandma sent us the “spiritual crocodiles” address by Elder Packer, along with a cute little crocodile key chain. I thought it would be a great message to present to the kids before school began.
Of course, I remembered being affected as a child by the analogy that crocodiles could ensnare their prey quickly and without warning, just as Satan can ensnare the children of God in his trap of sin if we are not careful and stalwart in our attempts to avoid temptation.
Our family had a wonderful discussion, the kids were extremely interested... particularly after I showed them the visual reference on youtube! Maybe a little too mature of subject matter for our little guy Grant. He was shocked by the video, and I felt badly about that. But brushed it off when he fell to sleep without any worries or fears.
It wasn’t until a few days later that the topic resurfaced in humorous light! Grant was on the verge of making a poor choice and I reminded him of that.
“Grant.... remember, you need to choose the right, I know you can make a better choice than that!” I said. To which he fearfully remarked back, “Or else the crocodiles will catch me and eat me up!?! Is that right, mom?”
Poor thing actually thought that crocodiles would get him if he disobeyed. Although a morbid and terrifying thought, it did work in my favor as he quickly made a very good choice! Hahaha. Don’t worry, I clarified the truth of the matter right away.
