Back to School Party with Grandma and Grandpa!

Our traditional back to school party was just as special as ever this year~!  Grandma decided upon a fun theme-- “plane to see, you’re going to SOAR!”  Based off Disney’s Planes movie, we created all sorts of fun airplane decor, games, food and activities to make the event one to remember!  Evelyn even made an airplane banner out of origami!  But first things first, Grandma and Grandpa took the kids to go see the movie.... which they loved and were thrilled about.  And then a few bags of popcorn later, we started the festivities.

The kids learned to make paper airplanes and then decorated them.  Afterwards, they spent time shooting the planes through all sorts of fun obstacles Grandma and Grandpa had arranged (hula hoops and ropes, etc.)   The kids enjoyed an exciting Planes matching game and then built a darling airplane glider of their own to which they attached one goal they would work on throughout the year.  After the party, the kids and I hung these airplanes in their bedrooms to remind them of their goals for the year.

Grandma’s special lesson focused on each child having a flight plan and working towards being their best self. For dinner, the kids enjoyed packaged “in flight meals” and soda served on a tray.  Also peanut bags and pretzels of course!  And at the conclusion of the party, they picked up their goody bag at the “baggage claim”.  It was such a great way to get excited about back to school.  I love this little tradition!
