This year the beginning of school was very bittersweet for me. Summer flew by and I just was not quite ready for school to start. Normally, although I know I’ll miss the kids, I’m ready for more structure and a little bit of quiet time in my day. But this year, it felt different. Maybe because the kids are getting older and I am genuinely enjoying their company more and more. Maybe because my motherly duties are not as much a “chore” these days. (Although I still have my moments.) Evelyn is such a big help with Anna. Dane and Grant are best of friends and play for HOURS together-- every sport under the sun....soccer, handball, baseball, basketball. And Anna has been enjoying an uninterrupted nap schedules which makes her 100 % happier.... along with her mother:)
So, starting the chaos of early morning wake ups, back to back activities and sports in the afternoon, school lunches, homework, no naps.....it all seemed quite stressful. Well, that and the fact that the kids were not overly excited about starting either. That’s never a good thing for a mom. All three of my kids were quite nervous about the start of school. Dane particularly. You can see from the expression on his little face in these pictures! SO nervous!
But all this being said, back to school went as smoothly as one could hope for. All the kids have wonderful, kind and conscientious teachers. We’ve lightened up our after school activities a bit. Evelyn is still busy busy with piano, gymnastics, activity days and kids sing. But Dane and Grant are only involved in soccer- which is great. The kids and I are appreciating our family time more than ever as it is limited... and we are all adjusting to the early bedtime/wake ups that accompany back to school. With all of my spare time in the afternoons, I’m able to reflect more on how amazing my children are and how much I LOVE being their mom!
She picked out this outfit by herself (so fashion savvy) and of course insisted on a few pictures of her handstands and back bends!!
Actual first day on the way to school.... notice Dane changed his outfit-- refusing to wear a collared shirt!!
Evelyn's great friend Propti-- in her class, yay!
Saying goodbye to Anna !
