Happy New Year!

New Year’s festivities have always been important to me.  I was raised in a goal oriented family!  We accomplished things and took pride in bettering ourselves!  I think this must be the reason I become extremely passionate every time the New Year rolls around.  I want my children to have an annual tradition of reflection and desire for self improvement!  And am I the only person alive who actually hangs a “Happy New Year” banner? Probably! HA!  This year I had the kids write out their hopes and wishes for the new year on little stars…. later we hung those wishes up so we could re-visit throughout the month of January.  The kids also picked one simple goal that they’d like to accomplish…. something they could do TODAY.  Evelyn chose to read the scriptures; Dane chose to help his mother more (as if he isn’t already my very best helper!) and then Grant chose to be nicer to Anna…. and that’s going just so-so, one month into the year.  But hey, they are trying and I have a quote hanging on our fridge door this month that I love to pieces by Elder Bednar which reads:

If today you are a little better than you were yesterday, then that’s enough.

How much do I love this quote?  So much so that I’ve quoted it almost every day this month!  It applies to so much in my life and in the lives of my children.  In regards to the way they treat each other, to their practice for sports, piano, attempts at being more helpful around the home.  Family night, prayers, scripture study.  We say it all the time when we mess up or when we succeed! Simple progress is key!

my kids adore ringing in the New Year with sparkling cider!

New Year's Eve at the Reeses:

Our New Year’s Eve was wonderfully fun.  We started the evening bowling with friends…. then stayed up way past bedtime playing games, watching movies, eating ice cream sundays and running up and down the dark streets with sparklers in hand.  Couldn’t believe that my one year old was up till almost 11!  She is such such such a good sport!!!  We laughed and chatted and ate and had a perfect night, feeling very blessed and excited for the new year to begin.
