Well, plain and simply, I have children! That and a student budget- yikes!
Shopping is desperately difficult in Brooklyn. For one, I avoid driving at all costs- so that is limiting. Maybe I"ll feel differently in a few months, but for now, it is my worst nightmare to cruise around the city. Secondly, the shops in my neighborhood are extremely pricey and do not carry many of the items I find myself in need of. And third, if I do shop in the neighborhood, it is difficult to carry my goods home along with Evy and Dane.
For the above stated reasons, I much prefer to do most of my shopping on-line. Shipping costs are pennies compared to the pricey mark-ups in NY anyway. It is so much easier and I have grown very fond of the experience. I order the kids' clothing, diapers, craft supplies, photos, and even all of my groceries on-line.
Needless to say, we have many boxes that arrive on our porch each week. It's a game for Evelyn. We call them her "presents". She is always eager to see if she has received a present... anything from underwear to glue sticks- she doesn't care! They are presents in her little mind. That is why it was so funny a week ago. I had unpacked all of the boxes of groceries- only one remained unopened. After awakening from her nap- she saw the "present" and asked if she could open it. Yes, of course she could. Inside the box was one lone case of Diet Dr. Pepper. Bursting with excitement she exclaimed, "Mama! A present for you!!!"
And, yes! It was a present for me. I do love Diet Dr. Pepper- thanks for recognizing that, Evelyn. :)
