Evelyn's green thumb

I’ve never understood much about gardening.  In fact, at the nursery, I actually had to check in with the sales clerk before leaving to make sure I understood how to properly plant seeds in a pot!  I think it’s a beautiful hobby and I would love to learn more about it someday; but for now I have little knowledge in the field.  That’s why I find it so amusing that Evelyn takes such interest in all things green,  particularly flowers in bloom.

Never have we lived somewhere in which the seasons have been so pronounced.  Fall was breathtaking and wonderful;  Winter was harsh!  Now spring~  it’s more beautiful than I could have imagined.

To celebrate Spring, Evy and I planted a few flower seeds in pots to place on our balcony - and we’ve enjoyed watching them grow.  Last week, we visited the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens.  I was nervous about the experience, as I feared Evelyn might attempt to pick the flowers growing everywhere, and within her little reach.  We discussed the topic for a good while and I felt she understood the rules.  But no… she didn’t.

She picked, in total, 3 flowers- and that is a BIG deal.  Every time I turned around to help Dane, she had picked a tulip, rose, or yet another tulip (her favorite!)  It was awful.  I endured nasty looks and a brutal verbal denouncement from BBG staff.  Not a fun day.

And yes, Evelyn was provided a consequence after we’d returned home.  No bedtime stories that night, and no watering her flowers for the next 2 days.  My little green thumb has always liked to play by her own rules most of the time.  I guess it's just part of her cute little red-headed personality.
