It was such a gorgeous day today, so we decided to bag city life and head to the beach for the afternoon. We had heard of Riis Park from a few friends at church~ it’s in Brooklyn and only a 30-minute drive from our place. Wow! It was great. The waves were huge, the beach was beautiful and the crowds were sparse (thankfully). Evy had a blast throwing herself at each wave and collecting various shells around the shore. Dane enjoyed playing in the deserted sand fortresses built by children earlier in the day. Throwing sand was a favorite for him.
And as for me, I was photographing the day. As well as trying to avoid these freakishly disturbing seagulls that were literally right above my head- inches away. It was as if they were watching, waiting to come in for the kill. Has anyone out there ever seen “The Birds” by Alfred Hitchcock? Well, I have… and it scared me, badly! Eventually, I summoned the courage to look up and shoot a picture of one. I hope the shot conveys the closeness of these creatures. I was not using a telephoto lens. And they tended to congregate together- making it even more scary.
But other than that, it was a great day.
