NY Philharmonic

Last night was such a special night. I had planned and prepared to attend the NY Philharmonic at Prospect Park – with Blake and the kids. We had debated getting a sitter, but decided since it was our last time to go to this amazing and FREE concert in the park, we’d like to go as a family. We planned to meet up with our friends—and we talked of it all week. Well, those with kids know that oftimes plans fall through when dealing with young ones. An hour before the concert, Evelyn’s tummy started to ache and she needed a bathroom fast. It became very clear to Blake and I, that it would not be a good plan to plop down in the middle of thousands of people with no bathroom in sight—because you can never know when another episode might occur.

So, we decided to forgo the picnic and the great seats with friends. Instead, we walked to the park and set up camp at the very edge of the concert so that we could make a speedy escape if need be. It was just our little family. And it was special. We listened, we felt uplifted, we left early and spent time chasing fireflies under the trees on our way out of the park. The whole park was lit up-- I have never seen so many fireflies. It was so much fun for the kids to run around amidst them. And you can actually catch fireflies in your hands and see them light up—it was kind of awesome for the kids and for me!

And all the while, the Philharmonic was playing in the background. I can honestly say, I had a deep love in my heart for beautiful music, for God’s majestic creations, and especially for my little family.
