Summer Happenings

Summer is officially here! And it's officially been a whirlwind thus far!!! I didn't realize how much I'd scheduled for the kids! And now I feel I've maybe been a little over-zealous and over-booked just a bit. But my kids are loving it and I guess I'm ok waking early to get them to their camps on time!

Last week the boys had the BEST time ever at soccer camp.  They loved their counselors and learned so many fun new skills.  Dane was voted MVP of his camp and Grant was received the Dynamic Dribbler award (couldn't think of a better adjective for him!!)  I'm so proud of Dane and his dedication to soccer.  He's really gained so many skills and I love to see him so devoted, practicing every day .  Also love to see him teaching his little brother how to do it.  Three year olds are not even allowed at camp, but the soccer park made an exception for Grant because he had learned so much from his big bro and fit right in! The two boys are really good friends these days.  They play hand ball, baseball, soccer, basketball, all day long.  It is very heartwarming as mom to watch this.  I love their friendship and feel so blessed to have these two little guys.  The boys are also working hard at swim lessons.  Dane is quite good, but working on perfecting his stroke and Grant is still working at becoming swim safe.  He is so adventurous.... it's nerve wracking to go to the pool with him because he will attempt to swim laps even though he's a beginner! I can't take my eyes off him for a SECOND. He's not one to "stay near the wall" despite my tiresome warnings.

Evelyn and Dane enjoyed Vacation Bible School last week as well and we've loved listening to all of the fun music and talking about the bible verses they've memorized.  A great program that I highly recommend.

Evelyn has kept busy with gymnastics camp and continues to work hard at gaining new skills and making new friends.  Gymnastics is definitely her passion these days, along with origami, reading, and piano.  She is a wonderful helper to me when it comes to Anna.  I am so grateful for her cute little mothering skills!

We have a schedule during the summer that we've been loosely following and that has worked well for us in the past.  Make-something Mondays, Time to Read Tuesdays, What's cooking Wednesdays, Thoughtful Thursdays, and Go somewhere Fun Fridays.  As a mother, this gives me some small structure to follow for the week. I like to think of service projects for Thursdays and crafts for Mondays.  We usually visit the library on Tuesday and cook up something fun on Wednesday.  And then on Fridays-- I push myself to explore and have an adventure.  With Anna in tow- I'm not always very eager to try new things.  Babies are high maintenance and I like to stick to pool and park for the most part.  But our schedule motivates me to push myself a bit in this area.

I love summer-- love having the kids at home.  They seem so much more care-free and happy.  I do miss my free time and quiet moments... but I know it's short lived and that they will only be this young age once! I feel so lucky to be a stay at home mom and to spend my days teaching and loving my kids!

make something Mondays-- painting t-shirts

we have spent COUNTLESS hours playing uno this summer.  The kids love this game so much.  I might love it a little bit too

Completion of soccer camp!  The boys did such a great job!

I taught a summer enrichment class on how to stay sane with your kids during the summer months. One of my projects were these story book rocks.  Really cute idea to help kids' create fun stories after picking out a rock with a picture.
