A big first grader, Dane has grown leaps and bounds in the last few months. Very opposite from last year, we have not once heard our little guy say that he’d like to stay home from school. Nope, he enjoys his teacher (Ms. Blais) and appears to have fewer worries about the reading/writing curriculum. And of course, math is and always has been a breeze for our little whiz.
Always the responsible type, Dane never complains about his homework after school. As long as he’s able to go out and play soccer or handball first! And I think one of the reasons Dane enjoys school so much more this year is the fact that he’s so darn good at handball... which is pretty much all the children do at recess. He can beat almost everyone at school (within his grade level, that is.) And cutest thing ever, he’s taught Grant how to play pretty well too! So the two of them are quite the companions in the afternoons--- playing handball, soccer, baseball and the like. They are inseparable and rarely fight. It’s delightful to me!
And speaking of sports... because it is my blog, I will brag a little here. Dane has become so good at soccer as of late. Blake and I practically burst with pride at the kid’s games. He is just such a star out there-- scoring 4 goals sometimes! Always right there in the mix, playing defense and offense, so coordinated, but ever-humble. It is thrilling to watch! With his small stature, and delayed interest in sports, we never expected such a turn around! But that being said, of course we are mostly proud of his hard work and effort. Dane practices NON-STOP and watches soccer games as often as possible to gain better skills. He is a hard worker and just an all around good kid. Couldn’t love him more. And that’s our little boy in a nutshell.
