April Fool's Day

My favorite time of year....April Fool's Day was a real hoot last week! The night before the big day, after the kids had fallen asleep, I started scurrying around the house as fast as I could to get everything in place.  Blake asked, "what in the world are you doing?" to which I replied, "you've been married to me for 15 years and you don't know what's going on right now?"   He caught on immediately.

I typically start thinking of funny pranks all throughout March.  When I come across a good idea, I write it down- that way I have a running list to help me prep for the big day.  It's weird how much I love "fooling" my family, and especially my kids. I'll blame it on my Mom and Dad... because I've been like this since I was a child!  This year, my list included the following pranks:

1. wake the kids up wearing the traditional Halloween Frankenstein mask!
It is THE funniest thing in the world to awaken someone with this mask on.  I tell you.... So funny!

2. Out of order sign stuck to toilet seats

Also quite hilarious! But they weren't falling for it- of course!

3. Stick a raison in the toothpaste... right there at the tip.  Super funny trick!  Even better than salt on the toothbrushes!

4.  Toilet paper stuffed into the front of tennis shoes.  I loved saying to Dane "Oh... I guess your feet have just grown a bit!"

5. Freeze cereal with milk at the bottom of their cereal bowl... then without them seeing, pour new cereal and milk on top.  Sounds complicated-- but it's really funny.  When the boys stuck their spoons in-- it was hard as a rock.  Cutest little faces looked up at me with a smile.  They love it.

6. Fake bugs inside sandwich lunch bag.

7.  Chore camp brochure.... SUCH a funny little brochure I found on line.  I'm kind of a good actress, so I totally pulled it off.  Dane thought it was a real camp.  Too cute.

8. By far... funniest joke of all... I took out the cream in the ores and replaced with toothpaste!  Kids fell for it... but not Blake, despite my trying to just subtly place a plate of cookies out on the table to make it appear as though the kids hadn't eaten all of their cookies and he should just grab one.  No, he didn't take the bait unfortunately.  That would have been good!
They look real, right?

I did get Blake pretty good, though.  I called him at work and told him that Grant had been throwing up all morning and I think Anna's coming down with it too because she hadn't eaten a thing and was super cranky.  He was bummed.  What parent doesn't detest news of throw up.... especially when four children could potentially be involved.  He totally fell for it and it was so funny.... or so I thought!!! SUPER ironically, later that evening, Dane started projectile vomiting all over the place.  UGH!
