June Happenings

So sweet... Anna's last day of preschool was quite the celebration.  As room mom, I put up a few decorations, hosted some games and supplied the food.  Loved seeing my little girl hug her teachers and friends and celebrate the end of the year.  Anna is so mature and intelligent (IMHO) she knew exactly which students were moving on to kindergarten and which would stay on in preschool.  She is going to miss her bestie, Nora SO much!  And speaking of maturing... so excited that our littlest has learned to swim!  We bit the bullet and paid the price for a program that guarantees swim safety by the end of the course. It was no fun, no not at all, for this Mama the first couple of days.  But by the end, Anna was a pro and could swim from the middle of the pool to the edge no sweat.  She was brave and coordinated.  So proud of her!  I often forget that Anna is no longer a baby.  I race all over town to practices and camps and playdates for the older kids and forget that Anna is old enough now to participate.  I've started coordinating more playdates with her friend Lavender and she's been attending gymnastics camp with Evelyn-- even has her own leotard which she wears every day now.  Love this girl:)

Grant has kept super duper busy with all sorts of camps!  He's enjoyed cooking camp, basketball camp and soccer camp to name a few.  He's also been a part of quite a few soccer tournaments this month.  He not only plays for his Arsenal Club team but also guests for Leon Soccer Club!!!  He absolutely amazes me with his awesome skills and his passion out on the field.  He's made quite a few little buddies that he adores.  One in particular is fun to have over because his brother plays on Dane's  team so it's a party when we all get together on game days.  Grant finished the school year with flying colors.   I was so proud of the growth he had made in reading.  His writing reflects the same goal over and over again-- he wants to learn to read.  That dream is coming true-  maybe not as fast as he'd like, but slowly but surely he is gaining the skills he needs to be a successful reader.  Grant has won every tournament he's played with Leon and it's been the biggest thrill of his life.  I love my little soccer stud!

Dane has also been as busy can be throughout June.  He attended Cub Scout Day camp and loved rock climbing, building a wooden helicopter, learning to fold the flag and raise the flag, rocket stomping and of course, playing soccer in between!  I was proud of my little CubScout!  Dane's been super interested in drawing lately and he'll spend all afternoon drawing from his car and animal drawing books.  He's also played a few tournaments and enjoyed basketball camp, soccer camp and cooking camp.  In fact, Dane loved cooking camp so much that he begged to try out his new recipes at home. He's now made chicken squares THREE times for our family, along with french toast and fried eggs.  It's been so fun to have him learn these new skills.  Loved being with Dane the last week of school to enjoy all of our traditional festivities.  Kite flying day was a big hit and afterwards I conducted a few games in the classroom and outside to wrap up our Self Esteem Unit.  I am going to miss this group of kids I've worked with over the past three years.  They have all been wonderful!  The Gardening teacher, Mrs. Page, absolutely loves Dane and his passion for all things gardening.  She constantly sent Dane home with seeds, veggies, and flowers throughout the year.  The last day of school she sent me some fun pictures. Dane is our little green thumb.

Evelyn has kept busy with voice lessons ( a new teacher who is FABULOUS) piano lessons, making videos of our family life and music.ly's all day and night.  Ev was thrilled to see NEWSIES with our friends the Kuletos.  Such a treat!  She attended a babysitting camp this month and received certification for CPR and first aid.  SO proud of her and her awesome attitude-- it was a long hard class- with intense subject matter but she did fantastic.  I feel confident leaving her now and then with the kids as long as I'm close by.  Ev has also helped a few of my friends as a mother's assistant.  She's getting tons of experience.  In addition to babysitting, Evie's been to gymnastics camp and had plenty of fun playdates with Reha, Rebecca and Saanvi.  She's signed up to audition for Wizard of Oz in August so we have that to look forward to.  Love how helpful and kind Ev is with Anna and Grant and occasionally Dane.  They have a tougher relationship-- but she is working on that.  She's really growing up before my eyes.

And lastly, there's me!  I've been busy finishing up my units in the classroom for Self Esteem and Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens.  Loved the cute pitcher that Ev's teacher gave me at the end of the year with all of the signatures.  I had the opportunity to present at our Stake Activity Day event entitled "Stand Tall".  My class was titled:  "Aim High, Stand Tall and Get Spotted" (Standing Tall Against Peer Pressure).  We took tips and clues from the giraffe on how to stand firm against peer pressure and it was really fun . Then the girls put together a little framed reminder of our lesson.
I had such a lovely saturday morning a couple weeks ago-- hiking to the top of Iron Mountain.  It was lovely at the time, view was beautiful, companionship great.... loved every moment.  UNTIL the next day when I realized I had totally torn up my knees in our 4 hours of steep hiking up and down the mountain.  I literally never exercise!  So this was quite the ordeal for my body, I guess, at my age. Yikes! I'm still in pain!  Lastly, I had the opportunity to put on a baby shower for a friend this month. It was fun to put together these cute strawberry shortcakes and Italian Creme Soda bar!  Good turnout and wonderful night.
