Summertime

We've been doing a lot of, well....just exactly what you'd imagine we'd be doing now that summer is in full swing. Lots of water balloon fights, lots of running through the sprinklers, playdates are now at the pool, not the park (luckily many of our friends have pools or community pools!) birthday parties, swim lessons, beach days, basketball camp, babysitting camp, cooking camp, soccer tourneys and the like!  It's been full but fun.

I started summer with the loftiest of goals! Heck, I even described them in detail in a podcast I helped with at the beginning of June on how to structure summer for success with your children!  My goals included an increase in chores, daily crafts, cooking, and family excursions, weekly themes and read alouds.  It was going to be perfect!

And we've tried! We've had successful days here and there.... sometimes just successful moments in the day.  It's hard to do everything when life is just busy.  But I knew going into it all that we'd do what we could and I wouldn't beat myself up when we chose the beach instead of chore charts--ha!
So far so good... sanity is intact!

So fun to celebrate Blake for Father's Day.  Now that Ev and Dane are older... I ask their opinion for a theme.  Not necessary in the least, but that's how we do it around here.  We were torn between Star Wars, Nacho Libre, and Napoleon Dynamite.  ND won out and it was so fun!  Loved making Blake his favorite dessert- strawberry shortcake, listening to all the kids describe what they love the most about dad:  Evelyn said that she loves how much he supports her in anything and everything she does, she's grateful he cares so much about her hobbies and interests and talents.  Dane appreciated all the help on the basketball court with great tips on how to improve his shot- which really work!  Grant was grateful to be able to watch soccer with Dad on tv and to play soccer with dad and grateful for Dad taking him to all his soccer games (do you sense a theme here?) Anna was grateful for the snuggles in bed from Dad-- she absolutely insists on Daddy snuggling her and no one else will do.  We've tried.  Love our Dad!
